Why Cooking Shows Replaced Cooking

The math is simple. A person watches a cooking show for fifty minutes. They see a finished dish. They feel they understand something about technique or flavor. They do not cook. The show satisfied the curiosity without requiring the work, mess, or risk of failure. Entertainment won. Skill lost.

Food media companies discovered this worked like a drug. They hired famous chefs, built elaborate sets, added drama and competition, and made watching easier than cooking.
